Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

Well, the end of 2009 is upon us. Merry Christmas to all and I wish the best for everyone in the new year! I'll be leaving for New York in about 24 hours for my 5th "tour of duty" on Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve (see above for my cameo). As usual it will be madness in Times Square. Time to bundle up.

UFC 107 Results

BJ Penn has cleaned out the lightweight division. Last night at UFC 107 BJ Penn left no doubt in my mind that he is the best 155lb fighter in the world. The only question now is will he be forced to vacate the title in order to chase the man known as "GSP," Georges "Rush" St-Pierre? UFC can't afford to have another title held up.

Also on the card, Frank Mir and Kenny Florian bounced back after tough losses. After putting Cheick Kongo to sleep, Mir now looks to string a few more wins and eventually end Brock Lesnar's career. Florian who tapped out the "cardio-machine" Clay Guida will more than likely be facing the man he lost to on The Ultimate Fighter, Season 1, and the man BJ Penn almost scalped, Diego "Nightmare" Sanchez.

I was 8-3 in my UFC 107 picks.

The rest of the card after the jump.

MTV Pulls "Jersey Shore" Punch Clip

Yesterday I saw parts of a show that has gained quite the buzz, MTV's Jersey Shore. For those who haven't seen it, it's basically The Real World with a bunch of stereotypical Italian-American kids from the New Jersey. Everyone has a nickname including my personal favorite Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino.

Amidst controversy over the bad stereotypes, the preview for the next episode of the show featured a closed-fist punch by a male to the face of female cast memeber Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi. It appeared as if she was getting into a verbal altercation with some guy at a bar and the next thing you know dude hits her with a right cross right in the mush! Additional footage was shown of her facedown on the floor and the cops arresting the guy. It was pretty bad.

MTV apparently thought so as well. They've removed the clip from the show entirely.

New Massive Attack feat. Hope Sandoval (from Mazzy Star) (NSFW)

Sweet little Hope Sandoval from the band Mazzy Star, whose hit Fade Into You made hearts melt in the 90's, is featured on the new single for Massive Attack. They are best known for their single Teardrop which is the opening music for the FOX TV show House. Stereogum has the new video for the track entitled Paradise Circus which will be on the Splitting The Atom EP. The video is pretty risqué. Lots of retro pornography footage. Definitely NSFW. I like the track. I do love clapping in songs.

Sorry Dallas!

My birthplace Dallas, Texas will not be the host of Manny Pacquiao v. Floyd Mayweather showdown. Golden Boy Promotions, Mayweather's promoter is not interested in having the fight take place in Cowboy Stadium. The New Orleans Super Dome is still under consideration but it looks more like the fight will take place in boring Las Vegas, Nevada at the MGM Grand. This is the biggest fight in Boxing. It's too big for such a small venue.

Sade's new single "Soldier of Love"

The lovely Sade is set to release a new album in 2010. She recently debuted the first single Soldier of Love on KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic and has it available on her website. The single has got a very hip hop vibe to it but retains a lot of what the Sade sound is all about. I'm looking forward to her coming to Los Angeles. Perhaps a show at the Hollywood Bowl could be in her future.
